In Honor of Jewish Combatants

To soldiers and their families -- Shalom,

The Ammunition Hill National Memorial Site in Jerusalem is a symbol of courage and the renaissance of the State of Israel and of the exemplary values of the Israel Defense Forces.

We are in the midst of setting up at Ammunition Hill a project to commemorate the service of Jewish soldiers in their countries' armies and other frameworks (underground movements, partisans, police, or any security service) during the past century. We see in the project a repayment of the debt of honor to the Jewish fighters who unhesitatingly rallied to the flag in great numbers, disproportionate to their amount in the population.

The project will amass the names and additional personal details of the soldiers, and the circumstances of their contribution to the war effort of their countries.

We have undertaken to collate all the material and create an information, education and research center.

Note: It is possible that there is a certain amount of duplication in the attached questionnaire; we have done so in order to assemble the maximum amount of information.

The Project's Information and Data Display Program Honor and Glory of Jewish Combatants :

  1. Compilation of names, as far as is possible, of most of the generations of Jews who fought and died in their countries' armies, and in the partisan movements.
  2. Personal details and histories of the fighters. An effort will be made to get the information together with the names, as well as photographs from their time of service (if obtainable).
  3. The names and the details will be documented and stored in the computers of the data center that will the heart of the project and will be eventually made available on an internet site.
  4. Every fighter , whose name and story is documented, will receive a "full screen" in the computers of the data center and everyone interested will be able to review and study the information.
  5. Documents, photographs and general information on world events (war, peace, the aftermath of the Holocaust, and so on), and the involvement of Jews in them with statistical data will also be displayed as part of the project.
  6. The information and the rest we hope to receive from the veterans themselves (those who are still with us) and/or their relatives, friends and various organizations.

We request that you fill out the questionnaire, even if you have responded to similar ones in the past, and return it the address below. At a later stage, we will return to some of the respondents to ask for further information and documents, certificates, photographs etc.

We intend creating an internet site in various languages in order to expand our exposure to an even wider public.

Please contact the undersigned for clarifications and to answer any questions.

In comradeship and esteem from the Ammunition Hill and Project team,
